The day your child leaves home for university, travelling or apprenticeships is one with such mixed feelings. So many parents and carers work towards this day, their child ready to embark on leaving the nest. So many years of encouraging, celebrating, holding and facilitating opportunities.

For any transition to be successful, for both parents, care givers and their children, is preparation, preparation, preparation, from visiting different colleges, preparing for interviews, trialling home recipes and using the washing machine! Then it comes to the move; driving and waiting in long queues to get fresh new duvet covers, mini kettles, lamps, plants, pots and pans, cutlery, plants, towels and cushions. Whilst check lists are being made, the rush to Ikea before the boxes are ready to be packed and then a full car to zoom off into this new chapter, one of hope and excitement.

For every tenner you spend on your child’s move, would you donate a fraction to Oxfordshire Kindness Wave crowd fund campaign to send 230 Housewarming Parcels to 230 young people, including unaccompanied asylum seekers, care leavers, providing Love, Comfort, Hope and Kindness. The community embracing the role of parent for those that may not experience otherwise.

Moving into independent living, embracing and learning from many mistakes from putting a coloured sock into a white wash, not knowing about council tax or the true price of cheese…. working out how to budget for that week, is a natural progression into adulthood. Most of us have a stable parent figure who they call when the fuses blow or the sink is blocked, who help guide us. Adults who support understanding of cooking on a limited budget and what foods we need to stay healthy, how to store food and wash the pots effectively.

This is why Oxfordshire Kindness Wave has launched a campaign to raise £18,000 to put together 230 House warming parcels. Each parcel will cost £80 and inside will be a bed spread, dressing grown, plants, wash bags, rugs, cushions and items for each young person to personalise including a clock, pillow and lamps.

The importance of providing soft furnishings such as a nice rug or set of curtains can make all the difference to give an otherwise bland space, a bit of colour and personality. From lighting, pot plants to up-cycling to learning to live in shared accommodation.

We hope you can support Oxfordshire Kindness Wave with customising housewarming parcels with warmth, colour and patterns that the young people can choose to create a safe and comfortable place for them to feel at home, as well as put their own stamp on their new space. Developing creativity and providing a sense of ownership and belonging.

Providing Love, Comfort, Hope and Kindness.
